About Kenna Markel

Kenna Markel will be graduating in May 2016 with an Integrated Bachelor/Master of Architectural Engineering degree with her focus in construction management.  At Penn State, she is the president of the Student Chapter for the Partnership of Achieving Construction Excellence (S:PACE) this year.  She is a leader in the Women in Engineering Program (WEPO) at Penn State, active in the freshman orientation program and an ongoing mentor.

In her five years at Penn State, she has been able to participate in three internships, on four different projects, with two companies, and in four different cities.  She is currently interning remotely up to twenty hours a week with DPR Construction on an IPD project.  This past summer, she was with DPR Construction working as the sole project engineer on a start-up project.  Summer 2014, she had the opportunity to work in Chinatown in San Francisco, CA on a historical hospital renovation project.  Her first internship was with James G. Davis Construction in Washington, DC.

Outside of her studies, Kenna enjoys hiking and traveling.  Some of her favorite travels include hiking Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Lake Tahoe.  In addition to driving across the United Stated last summer, she has recently had the opportunity to travel on a community service trip to Honduras last spring.  There she and a group of 16 students built a solar array to power a water pump for a local community.  In the future, she looks forward to future opportunities to get to experience new places.
